Mitt Romney, age 64, is a Businessman and a Republican Political figure that ran in the last presidential campaign of 2008 as a Republican candidate. The former governor of Massachusetts gained a following throughout his campaigning going into the election of 2008 but only received about 18% of the Republican votes, failing to capture a lot of states based on the issues he was concerned about.

Romney goes for the Republican ticket

Romney, one of the leading contenders for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, formally announced that he will enter the 2012 presidential campaign and that he had begun to form his campaign exploratory committee via a message on facebook to his friends as well as a video on his website.

The two and a half minute video alluded to what he will emphasize entering the campaign leading up to the election. He plans to spotlight his credentials as a businessman and the fact that he was a former governor with the hopes to win the hearts of those who have been heart by our current economic recession. He wants to turn around the economy and increase job creation immediately, and this plan, he hopes, will win the states he'll rely on to get the nomination against President Obama.

Romney made a confident and promising statement in the announcement video on his website, "President Obama's policies have failed, I have become convinced that America has been put on a dangerous course by Washington politicians, and it has become even worse during the last two years." "But I am also convinced that with able leadership, America's best days are still ahead."

The future candidate did not account for his signature accomplishment as governor of Massachusetts: "a health care plan that extended coverage to nearly everyone in Massachusetts, in part by requiring that residents obtain health insurance or pay a fine." (USA today) His assets include an intelligent business-minded stature, considerable wealth and personal fortune as well as the experience he obtained from his run in 2008. His setbacks going into 2012 include questions concerning his core values which lead to the failure to connect with voters in his 2008 campaign and the election.

Opponents that have already formed exploratory committees for the Republican nomination include former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty as well as former Louisiana governor Buddy Roehmer. Let the fight begin.

My sense is that Romney has trouble connecting with the voters - I might be wrong. A sound introduction to the contender - thanks.

Yes I definitely agree with you, I think he's a very charismatic and business-like candidate, but he does have problems connecting to voters. Thanks for reading!
